Working out the size of the cemetery.
I've spent weeks asking people, looking in records and I haven't been able to find out the size of he cemetery. A friend suggested that I use Google Earth and play with their tools. Well it worked!
Here are the steps I did to work out, roughly how many square meters Mummell cemetery is.
You do need to have Google Earth to do this.
1) Open Google Earth and search for the place you want. You can narrow it down to a specific area.
2) Look at the tools on the top of the screen. Select the Ruler picture.
3) From the menu tabs select Polygon.
4) Locate the area you want to measure and then trace it. A yellow guide line allows you to have a set starting point and the red line is the drawn line.
5) Now you have the shape and you can select the measurement type from the down arrows.
While it isn't an accurate measurement, I have a rough size of both the perimeter and the area.
The Mummell Cemetery is approximately 3,641.96 square meters.
Great work! I suggest looking at land records on HLRV.
